STEM has become a fundamental part of education and the Academy is promoting it through a number of workshops. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and is designed to foster innovation, critical thinking, and attempt to understand and find potential solutions for real-world problems.
Year 7, for example, have been working with experts from Anglian Water on something called The Big Project where they research, design posters, run presentations and ultimately try and work out “How can we provide fresh water to the entire globe?”
Students have also been learning to design and build floating gardens using recycled plastic to create sustainable structures, capable of growing plants, whilst others have been working on challenges, using everything from LEGO to water pipes in order to complete a series of problem-solving activities.
