Awards and Specialisms

National Citizen Service - Champion School

Over 300 secondary schools throughout the country have been awarded ‘Champion School’ status by National Citizen Service (NCS) to reward their commitment to the youth programme to date. More than 300,000 students have graduated from NCS since 2011, with teachers reporting positive effects on schools and pupils as a result. The status has been given to those institutions who have excelled in promoting the programme and recruiting young people to take part over the last academic year. We were one of the only three Lincolnshire schools / FE colleges to receive the highest accolade, the Gold Award.

Healthy Schools
National Healthy Schools Status

National healthy school status defines the criteria that schools need to satisfy in order to be recognised nationally as a healthy school. The criteria relate to four themes: PSHE (including sex and relationship education and drug education), healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and well-being (including bullying). Becoming a healthy school is a developmental process. The whole school approach is key to ensuring that a school’s journey towards becoming healthier and more effective is a dynamic process and one, which is sustained over time.

School Council Award - Gold
Lincolnshire School Council Award

School Council Award is a scheme for schools who ensure their pupil voice is most effective. There are three levels, bronze, silver and gold. The award is to promote and raise the profiles of school councils, to enable them to become involved with school life and beyond, to make decisions and for pupils to have a voice in the school environment. Lincolnshire County Council awarded our student council a Gold Award (the highest award possible) for all of their outstanding achievements.

Fair Trade Logo
Fairtrade

As educational institutions, as an important sector of the UK economy, and as a significant part of local communities, our school has a responsibility to promote civic responsibility and consider the social and environmental costs of our choices. Campaigning for Fairtrade status means embedding a commitment to fair trade principles in our school's policy - Our pupils have achieved this in May 08 with the Fair Trade Foundation - a fantastic achievement and a lever for further progress as it involves a commitment to continual improvement!

DofE - Duke of Edinburgh Award

The world's leading youth achievement award, the DofE in the UK is proud to be part of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, which drives and supports global growth. It is a flexible programme that helps to develop young people for life and work. The DofE has a postive impact on young people's lives, in terms of their personal development and employability and on wider society, from charities gaining active and engaged volunteers to businesses hiring work-related recruits.

Initial Teacher Training

Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)

SCITT is a school led course where they provide practical, hands-on teacher training, delivered by experienced and practicing teachers based within a school. St George’s Academy is involved within a network of schools that provide this service. Training in a school gives the opportunity to learn ‘on the job’, with the added benefit of working and learning every day in a school and getting an immediate insight into what teaching consists of.
