One of our Year 7 students Kayla, travelled to the Netherlands to compete in the European Judo championships to represent Great Britain in her age / weight group.
Kayla fought in the Girls M5 category (school years 7,8 & 9 in the same group) under 40kgs. She gave her all, winning 2 out of 4 fights; narrowly missing out on a bronze medal. The bronze medal fight was only lost by her opponent straggling her and Kayla tapped out. In Kayla's UK Judo Association they don't teach straggles until an older age group (14yr+), so it is difficult for her to train against that aspect of the fight.
We are all very proud of her, it is such a high level with many UK competitors not winning any of their fights.
Congratulations Kayla, what an achievement!
