Our Senior Youth Speaks team took part in the Sleaford heat of the Rotary Club competition, held this year at Carre’s Grammar School. Despite being up against some excellent competition from our two local grammar schools, we are pleased to say our team won. Not only that, two of the team won individual prizes also.
Their topic was ‘The sciences are more essential to humanity than the arts’. The Proposer was Adam; the Opposer was Nancy; the Chair was Ellis. Nancy was awarded the ‘Best Opposer’ of the evening prize; Ellis was awarded the ‘Best Chair’. This means that 3 out of 4 prizes came to us. Adam, did a fabulous speech also and really set the tone for the whole debate.
The team now head to the next round, which takes place in Grantham, in January.
It is 4 out of 4 wins for Ellis now – he is truly turning into the GOAT of Sleaford speaking competitions (this means he has won as a Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12 – only Covid scuppered his chances last year as the competition did not run!) It was Adam’s second successive victory, whilst it was Nancy’s debut in the competition.
As always, they were a credit to the school and their families.
