Performing Arts

Level 2 Certificate in Creative & Performing Arts (Acting)

This course is both interesting and enjoyable. It provides learners with skills, knowledge and understanding within the sphere of the creative and performing arts. The course offers practical structured learning with the flexibility to specialise in the discipline of acting.

Structure:

This course follows the acting pathway. All learners take an externally assessed core unit (Live Performance) which requires them to work to a brief, specific to the area of Acting. In addition, they take one optional unit (Text in Performance) which develops their acting skills and their contextual, historical and theoretical understanding of acting.

Content:

Unit One:

Text in Performance (Internally Assessed)

Unit Two:

Live Performance (Externally Assessed)

Learners will apply a range of skills, knowledge and understanding which will be of value in other studies. They will develop the ability to take greater responsibility, lead others, evaluate and analyse ideas that are related to their studies. They will apply their skills to planning an event, planning a repertoire and rehearsal schedule. They will also consider the correct use of relevant equipment and the necessary elements of Health and Safety.

In their optional unit, they will study one classic and one contemporary play text. They will develop a solid grounding of practical acting skills which they will apply in a number of performance pieces. All learners will be expected to keep a detailed Actor’s Logbook, which will track their progress throughout the unit.

Assessment

The qualification contains 50% externally assessed (core unit) content and 50% internally assessed (optional unit) content. The externally assessed core unit includes a timed assessment under controlled conditions based on an assignment set and marked by RSL. There are three bands of assessment in Levels 1 and 2 which are Pass, Merit and Distinction. Learners must pass both the core unit and the optional unit to be awarded the Certificate.

This option provides a sound base for the study of Performing Arts at Level 3 or Drama & Theatre Studies at A Level.
