FAQs

Q: Can I save files to my local computer?
A: Yes, you can upload and download files. Under This PC in File Explorer you should see a shortcut called "C Drive on..." which is your local device.

Q: I have typed in the domain but nothing happens?
A: Check you have used SGA followed by a back-slash and not forward-slash (i.e. SGA\Username).

Q: Microsoft Office is not installed on my local computer, how do I open a document?
A: When you open any document, a virtual version of Office will open allowing you to work on it.

Q: How do I create a new document?
A: Select your home drive, right-click in and select New > Word Document, etc

Q: How do I open my email from File Explorer?
A: Please use the Webmail link which can be found on the Academy website

Q: Can I still access the old Remote Desktop?
A: As of September 2020, the old remote services have been retired from service. We have however increased the amount of remote servers are available (both File Explorer and Remote Desktops).

Q: Does the new remote portal work on older versions of Windows?
A: We have not been able to test it using an old version of Windows. Using an unsupported operating system is dangerous and your personal data could be at serious risk of hacking or infection. This is why, in 2015, Microsoft offered all Windows 7 and 8 users a free upgrade to Windows 10.

Q: Will this work on any Linux operating system?
A:  It would be impossible to test every Linux distro so we have only tried the most common (Ubuntu). Webmail will certainly work in your browser, and you can work on Office documents offline using LibreOffice, or OpenOffice, since they are both Microsoft Office compatible. GoogleDocs is also free and backward compatible with Office.
